Star of Life 2008
Jon Cobbett has been with Cataldo Ambulance Service
since 2002. Jon is recognized as a Star of Life and selected based
on his exemplary skills professionally, clinically and personally.
Jon is commended as consistently going above and beyond in his attempts
to provide the best care possible to his patients. Consistently recognized
as being a great educator,
Jon is always working closely with new medics to help them develop
their skills further. His leadership has recently gained him a promotion
to clinical supervisor. Jon is noted to always go the extra mile
with patients and fellow employees. As described by his peers, “Jon
can almost instantly establish a great repoire with people. Whether
it be a patient, co-worker or hospital staff members, people always
seem to migrate towards Jon in a positive manner.” Jon has
been in EMS in the North Shore Area for over 20 years and has been
an instrumental part of Cataldo’s staff. His professional and
empathetic nature was highlighted during a recent incident in which
he attempted to resuscitate a 24-26 week gestation prenatal newborn.
Jon handled the call as a professional while remaining calm and sympathetic
during the family’s major crisis. Most recently, Jon demonstrated
clinical excellence while on scene at a fire in Revere, MA. Jon worked
and intubated a patient rescued from the fire by successfully administering
two IO’s, a new skill for Cataldo’s Paramedics at the
time. Jon’s leadership and compassion are recognized by his
peers and management alike at Cataldo Ambulance Service.
Dawn Marie Nasuti has been with the organization
since 2003. Dawn’s nomination is not for a single event but
rather for her continuous excellent performance as a dispatcher,
call-taker and training officer in our communications center. Dawn’s
responsibilities include dispatching up to 30 emergency response
vehicles which service six contracted 911 communities,
numerous hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities.
Her attention to detail, work ethic and dedication to making sure
Cataldo’s portion of the EMS system runs as flawlessly as possible
is a tribute not only to her skills and abilities, but her personal
characteristics as well. Cataldo Ambulance Service, Inc. considers
itself very fortunate to have her on our team.
Dawn utilizes resources with a proficiency that sets the benchmark
by which all other dispatch personnel within our organization are
measured. Her demonstrated commitment to patient care, customer
service and the well being of our field providers is evidenced in
her daily performance, and quite simply put is outstanding. In
addition to her daily responsibilities as either a dispatcher or
call taker, Dawn took the initiative to develop, and orchestrate
the implementation of, an entirely new training program for new call
takers and dispatchers. This new training program ensures that
all new employees are fully proficient in all aspects of the job
prior to being integrated into the communication center, but more
importantly has raised the performance standard these employees must
meet or exceed.
Brian Terzian has been with Cataldo since 2006.
Brian is nominated as a 2008 Star of Life because he is an individual
of exceptional character. His dedication to both his patients and
our industry has been outstanding from the beginning of his employment
as an EMT, and now as a Paramedic. Brian is an avid outdoorsman
whose interests include hiking, backpacking,
and rock climbing. Brian’s most obvious distinguishing personality
trait would be his selfless dedication to others. Among other humanitarian
interests he has volunteered his time in the soup kitchen for homeless
women, as a volunteer fire fighter, and as a mentor at summer camps
for children between the ages of 6 and 13.Brian’s work related
experience is extensive. He became EMT certified in 1999. As a Northeastern
University graduate, Brian graduated as valedictorian out of a class
of 53 students. Since April 2007, he has performed exceptionally
well as a field Paramedic for Cataldo Ambulance Service.
There are several examples which clearly exhibit Brian’s commitment
and exemplary service. Approximately two months ago Brian responded
to a pediatric call for an apneic 6 year old. Although the call was
very challenging and emotional for several reasons, he treated and
managed the patient who ultimately recovered without any deficits.
Most recently, while driving through Boston Brian saw a female lying
alone on the sidewalk. He stopped and found her to be apneic and
unresponsive. Brian dialed 911 and attended to the patient using
a jump kit he keeps on-hand in his personal vehicle. He supported
the patient’s ventilations and remained on the phone with Boston
EMS dispatch until the Boston EMS units arrived. These are just a
few examples of Brian’s dedication and selflessness to exceptional
service. On several occasions he has exhibited his personal commitment
as a health care provider and he has an unconditional politeness
to all of his patients and fellow staff members alike. Brian’s
compassion and selflessness are recognized and appreciated by his
peers and management alike at Cataldo Ambulance Service, Inc.
