FOUR CATALDO EMPLOYEES HONORED
AT EMS REGION IV AWARDS
On October 25th, the Metropolitan Boston Emergency Medical Services
Council held their Seventh Annual Awards banquet acknowledging individuals
and organizations that have made a positive contribution to the
field of EMS within Region IV. Awards were presented in seventeen
categories to area healthcare professionals and organizations. Among
those seventeen award recipients, four Cataldo Ambulance employees
were presented awards for exhibiting excellence in the field of
Emergency Services.
Two members of Cataldo Ambulance received the
award for Outstanding Team Response for saving the life of a Chelsea
man who suffered a heart attack at a football field in mid July.
Cataldo’s Pedro Gonzalez and Jennifer Casalini received the
Outstanding Team Response Award, an award presented to a team of
responders who demonstrate a professional and highly team-oriented
approach to patient care during an extremely severe medical emergency.
During this call, the patient, who complained of chest pain quickly
became unresponsive to verbal stimuli and went into cardiac arrest.
The crew worked diligently to bring the patient back from cardiac
arrest for 13 minutes in which they finally were successful in getting
a pulse and transporting the patient to the Emergency Department
alive. As Cataldo’s Director of Clinical Services and Education,
Jeff Stewart noted, “this call demonstrates solid knowledge
and application of patient care standards, fantastic professional
skills by maintaining level heads and managing a complicated arrest
and in this case … an outstanding result.” The patient
came to Cataldo Ambulance Service on September 5th with no deficits
and fully ambulatory to thank the crew for saving his life.
In addition,
the MBEMSC awarded Dawn Marie Nasuti the Telecommunicator of the
year award. This award is presented to a telecommunicator who performs
meritorious service above and beyond the expectations of the profession.
As Cataldo’s Director of Communications noted, “Dawn
is nominated not for a single event but rather her continuous exemplary
performance as a dispatcher, call taker and training officer in
our communications center.” Gina Wakelin, a supervisor at
Cataldo, also received the Region IV EMS Supervisor Award which
is presented to a medically trained EMS Supervisor who performs
above and beyond the call of duty.
