CARING ABOUT OUR COMMUNITIES
Cataldo Ambulance participates in more than 100 community programs and
special events each year. Our employees belong to various coalition groups
involved in everything from education and medicine enhancement to local
charity and fundraising events. We are a dedicated member of a team of
diverse health care organizations that share one common goal: Improving the
Quality of Life!
Cataldo’s Kids 1st Program
In an attempt to build a brighter future for our youth, Cataldo Ambulance
Service is now bringing educational offerings designed to demonstrate
health and safety information to elementary school children throughout
the Greater Boston Area. As part of Cataldo’s youth education programs,
we have launched a new educational initiative teachings elementary school
students the basics of EMS, 9-1-1 and first aid and safety.
Cataldo’s Kids 1st Program is a community based program which targets
fourth and fifth grade students with the Atlantic and Cataldo service
area (Malden, Everett, Chelsea, Saugus, Somerville, Peabody, Lynn, Melrose,
Revere, Salem and Marblehead). Paramedics and Emergency Medical
Technicians (EMTs) teach students emergency first aid and prevention,
as well as how to treat typical injuries kids may encounter. Elementary
students also have the opportunity to explore the inside of an ambulance,
to ask questions about the vehicle and to touch and test important pieces
of equipment used daily. Students will become familiar with EMTs and Paramedics
in this relaxed forum which encourages children and teachers to interact
with their instructors.
Cataldo Ambulance Service F.A.C.E Program
As part of our Youth Education Initiatives, Cataldo Ambulance has partnered
with the Citizens School Apprenticeship Programs to create the F.A.C.E.
Program (First Aid & Childcare Education). This apprenticeship teaches
middle school students how to care for others and what to do in the case
of a medical emergency. A full curriculum has been developed to host a
12 week program which combines important lessons such as first aid, CPR,
the Heimlich maneuver and basic childcare guidelines.
Cardiac Survival Project
The Cardiac Survival Project is a collaborative effort between Cataldo
Ambulance Service and community-based public service groups. This project
is aimed at reducing the number of lives lost to cardiac arrest and heart
disease through aggressive CPR education throughout the eleven communities
Cataldo Ambulance provides 9-1-1 services.
Youth Education
Alcohol Awareness Program
This program combines the resources of high school drama students and
the audio visual department in conjunction with Cataldo Ambulance Service,
police and fire departments to simulate the awesome results of a fatal
crash which leaves one dead, four seriously injured and dozens traumatized.
This event, held at or near prom season, fully illustrates the potential
devastations of drinking and driving that adolescents are too often exposed
to. Cataldo Ambulance Service works with local high schools, police
and fire, to offer the Alcohol Awareness Program which educates high
school juniors and seniors on the dangers of drinking and driving.
American Cancer
Society
Cataldo Ambulance Service understands the importance of medical research,
and we take great pride in lending a helping hand. We participate in
the following American Cancer Society (ACS) fundraisers each year.
We also host an annual golf tournament and the proceeds are donated
to the research efforts of the ACS.
Daffodil Days
Each March our employees gleefully purchase bunches and bunches of
daffodils from the ACS. These daffodils symbolize hope for the future.
At CAS, we hope the money raised by our employees will help us move
towards the ACS' goal of finding a cure for cancer.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Each October Cataldo employees tie their sneakers tight and walk along the Charles
River in support of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against
Breast Cancer.
Annual Cataldo Ambulance Service Golf
Tournament
Cataldo’s Annual Golf Tournament began in 1993 with the intention
of making a small yearly contribution to the Fight Against Cancer.
Now, after hosting for many years, Cataldo Ambulance Service has raised
over $250,000 for the cause. Most recently, Cataldo’s Swing Fore
Hope Tournament donated all proceeds to the American Cancer Society’s
Hope Lodge Boston. The Hope Lodge offers cancer patients and their
families a free, temporary place to stay while patients are receiving
their treatments. With over 26 Hope Lodge locations throughout the
U.S., each offers a variety of resources and information about the
disease and how to best fight it.
With exciting raffle prizes, great networking and sponsorship opportunities,
we believe that together we can make a difference to the lives of many
suffering from Cancer.
Toy Drive Helps Families in Need
Each December Cataldo Ambulance Service works with the Somerville
Housing Authority to collect toys to be donated to the local Toys
for Tots.
The toy drive, held at the Kmart in the Assembly Square Mall in Somerville,
proves to be successful each year. An ambulance is stationed outside
of the retail store each year to generate interest.
During the two days of the drive, employees receive new and unwrapped toys from
area residents and fill the ambulance. Toys are then distributed by the Somerville
Housing Authority to children up to 11 years of age. Employees of Cataldo Ambulance
Service and Kmart also donate toys for the children each year. This toy drive
is a continuous way Cataldo Ambulance Service gives back to the Somerville Community.
