Annual Cataldo Ambulance
Service Golf Tournament

Bob, Diana and Dennis Cataldo started the annual golf tournament in 1993 with
the intention of raising much needed funds for the American Cancer Society (ACS).
In previous years the proceeds raised were donated directly to the American Cancer
Society’s programs of research, education and early detection. This year,
in addition to the Cancer Society, Cataldo donated $15,000 of the proceeds to
the educational trust funds of Lynne Smith’s three young children. Lynne
was a 17- year employee of Cataldo Ambulance Service and in August 2003,
at the
age of 38, lost her life to a very rare form of lung cancer.
Over the years, the tournament has raised approximately $125,000 for the American
Cancer Society.
Early registration for this years tournament is encouraged to guarantee space
availability.
Sponsorship
opportunities are also available. Please view the tournament
brochure or call our office at 617-625-0126 for more information.
Youth Education
Alcohol Awareness Program
This program combines the resources of high school drama students
(as victims with moulage) and the audio visual department in
conjunction with Cataldo Ambulance Service, police and fire departments
to simulate the awesome results of a fatal crash which leaves
one dead, and four injured and dozens traumatized. This event
is held at or near prom season to demonstrate the true dangers
of drinking and driving.
Cataldo
Ambulance in Partnership with Public Schools
(C.A.P.P.S.)
The Cataldo Ambulance in Partnership with Public Schools (C.A.P.P.S.)
program is an educational offering designed to bring health and
safety information to today's youth. Cataldo Ambulance Service
provides
this program to all students attending elementary schools in the
communities we serve.
C.A.P.P.S. is geared toward fourth and fifth grade students. Paramedics
and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) will concentrate on a
specific health and/or safety topic. The forum is relaxed and encourages
children and teachers to interact with the instructor in an easygoing
atmosphere. The programs are designed to last one hour but can be
tailored to your time availability. We will provide all necessary
activity materials for the program. Examples of C.A.P.P.S. topics include:
•
Bicycle Safety
•
Basic First Aid
•
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
•
911 - What is your Emergency?
•
Home Safety
Adopt-A-School Program

through local business mentoring.

Medical Access Van
This is our Medical
Access Van that is operated for the Whidden Memorial Hospital. This van is contracted
to the Whidden Hospital 5 days a week and its primary function is to transport
area residents of Everett and Revere to the Whidden Memorial for medical appointments. The
Whidden Memorial also uses this van for transportation of their volunteer workers. This
is just another way that Cataldo Ambulance Service is reaching out to our community.

American Cancer Society
Cataldo Ambulance Service understands the importance of medical
research, and we take great pride in lending a helping hand. We
participate in the following American Cancer Society (ACS) fundraisers
each year. We also host an annual golf tournament and the proceeds
are donated to the research efforts of the ACS.

Daffodil Days
Each March our employees gleefully purchase bunches and bunches
of daffodils from the ACS. These daffodils symbolize hope for
the future. At CAS, we hope the money raised by our employees
will help us move towards the ACS' goal of finding a cure for
cancer.
Relay For Life
In June, tents are pitched, BBQ's are sparked and the sneakers
are laced up and ready to go for the American Cancer Society's
Relay for Life. Cataldo employees have participated in this 24-hour
walkathon held at Macdonald Stadium in Malden for the past five
years.

2005 Toy Drive Once Again Helping Needy Families

Sometimes the best things begin with
a phone call.
That’s how the Somerville Housing Authority began its annual
Toy Drive, and that phone call was made by Dennis Cataldo, owner
of Cataldo Ambulance Service, four years ago.
“ Mr. Cataldo
just called and said he wanted to help,” said Gay Cataldo
(no relation), executive director of the housing authority. “They
were kind enough to donate an ambulance and had a big sign to help
people know about it.”
The toy drive, which was held in early
December at the Kmart in the Assembly Square Mall in Somerville,
was even more crucial this year, said Cataldo of the housing authority,
because of the substantial increase in home heating fuel oil and
food.
“The list keeps getting larger,” she said, noting
that many of the more than 100 families served by this drive often
must decide between keeping their home warm and purchasing a toy
for their children. “ They wouldn’t have
such a good Christmas without the outpouring of support from the
community.
That support makes you feel wonderful.”
The ambulance stationed at the Kmart entrance once again was staffed
by Cataldo employees such as Medical Technician Jack Paster. During
the two days of the drive, he and other staff helped receive the
new and unwrapped toys from area residents and filled the ambulance
several times. The toys were to be distributed to children up to
6 years of age.Employees of Cataldo Ambulance and Kmart also donated
toys for the children. For the ambulance company, it’s just
one way of giving something back to the community.“Cataldo
Ambulance has come through in spades,” noted Gay Cataldo. “It’s
been absolutely wonderful.” |
